Rauch Employment Services Career Day
To find the perfect job, you must first know the different types of careers available. On Friday, May 29, Rauch Employment Services hosted “Career Day” allowing speakers to share their knowledge among the people with disabilities using Rauch’s services. The speakers presented on a variety of topics and encouraged attendees to consider seeking commercial employment.
Over the course of two hours, a dynamic group of individuals spoke to twenty attendees about their careers and the skills that have enabled their success. Tobey Nelson from Ohio Valley Home Health gave an overview of healthcare-related jobs, including Certified Nursing Assistant positions, while Cerena Cruz from Fairfield Inn demonstrated the roles of housekeeping and laundry positions, using a prop called the “helping hand” to show how to fold a fitted sheet.
Other companies from the community presented as well, including Sam’s Club, the New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter, and Walmart. The day also featured door prizes, snacks, and other employment-related information.
The highlight of the session, however, was Cory Broady. The attendees were very engaged in Cory’s presentation and not just because he did a great job talking about his position—they also saw something of their own perspective in him. Cory obtained his job with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles with the guidance of his Rauch Employment Consultant Janis. Her assistance has helped build in him considerable motivation and purpose.
Dakota, who attended the session, said, "Career Day was very helpful. I met the Employment Consultants and learned about cool jobs."
